Rohit Sharma lost his cool on Shubman after the latter’s mistake resulted in his run out in the first T20I against Afghanistan in Mohali. The single was on but Gill kept watching the ball instead of his batter partner, who reached the non-striker’s end.
The bails were removed by Rahmanullah Gurbaz, with Rohit at the other end. Sharma scolded Shubman for his blunder and reacted angrily while walking back to the dressing room.
He opened up on the incident in the post-match presentation ceremony. “These things happen. You get frustrated when such incident takes place. I wanted Shubman Gill to play a long innings,” Rohit Sharma said.
“We were good in the game. Spinners and pacers bowled well. Tilak Varma, Jitesh Sharma and Rinku Singh were fine with the bat. We want to try out things we are uncomfortable with. Washington bowled in the death overs today,’ he added.
India won the game by 6 wickets to go 1-0 up in the three-match series. Shivam Dube was named the Player of the Match for scoring an unbeaten 60 runs and taking one wicket. Afghanistan managed 158/5 in 20 overs.
