Shubman Gill will make his captaincy debut against Mumbai Indians on March 24 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The new skipper of Gujarat Titans has a big responsibility after Hardik Pandya rejoined MI. Hardik replaced Rohit Sharma as captain.
Both franchises will be aiming to win the game on Sunday. Mohammed Shami, the Gujarat Titans pacer, has a message for Gill ahead of the crucial match. Shami has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League 2024 due to an injury. Shami said that captaincy has come early for the youngster, but the player needs to play without being under pressure.
Shami said that captaincy had come early for the young player, but he must lead from the front.
“Captaincy has come early for Shubman Gill and I am sure he was not expecting it. You have to take the responsibility one day. You have performed well as a batter in the past,” Shami said on Cricbuzz.
“You can’t take a lot of load because of being a skipper. Just stay calm. You have the responsibility and you can’t say no. Focus on your skills and see how you can balance the team,” Shami added.
Gill was the Orange Cap winner in 2023. He had a rough patch after the ICC World Cup 2023 but came back into form in the five-match Test series against England.
Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings, and Kolkata Knight Riders won their matches while Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Delhi Capitals, and Sunrisers Hyderabad lost the contests.
