Veteran India wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha stated that nothing can be achieved by force if a player doesn’t want to play domestic cricket, adding that every cricketer should respect it to succeed.
Saha’s remarks came after Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer were not offered new contacts for the 2023-24 season, with the BCCI stating that the two players were not considered in this round.
“That is BCCI’s decision and personal call of two players. You can’t achieve anything using force,” Saha said about Ishan and Iyer’s punishment.
These two players have represented India across formats and were with the team in recent games. Iyer player the first two Tests against England, while Ishan travelled to South Africa.
“Whenever I am fit I play cricket. I even go for club matches. All matches should be given equal importance. If you play every game, you will only prosper as a cricketer. It will also help the Indian cricket,” he said.
“Domestic cricket is always important. Look at the runs Sarfaraz Khan has scored in the last few years and now he is playing for the Indian team.”
Saha also praised the wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel. “I haven’t seen him personally. I watched the highlights of his innings and he looks a good player. He won the last Test for India.”
