1983 World Cup-winning hero Madan Lal commended Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sarfaraz Khan following their outstanding performances in the third Test against England in Rajkot. Yashasvi scored an unbeaten double-century, while Sarfaraz made fifties in both innings of his debut match, contributing to India’s comprehensive victory by 434 runs.

Madan Lal commended the young generation of Indian cricketers, stating that they have a lot of experience playing first-class cricket and IPL cricket, which has helped them develop a positive and fearless approach to batting. He added that their confidence comes from playing a lot of cricket, and that’s the reason they are champions.

“The youth these days are really skilled. They’ve played a bunch of top-level cricket matches like first-class and IPL, and they’re not afraid to go for big shots,” Madan Lal told IANS. He praised their positive batting style, which he attributed to their extensive cricket experience.

Lal highlighted Yashasvi’s class and advised Sarfaraz to maintain his consistency.

“Yashasvi is a class player and consistent, while Sarfaraz, who is at the beginning of his journey, needs to maintain his performance levels,” he added.

When asked about managing the squad with the return of KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer, Lal said that it’s a good sign to have a good pool of talent.

“I believe it’s positive. When we look at players like KL, Virat, and Shreyas, they’ve performed exceptionally well. The newcomers have just begun.”

“Preference will be given to the established players who have consistently delivered victories for the country. We’re fortunate to have a strong talent pool, and those on the edge will need to compete for their spots,” he said.

Lal also shared his thoughts on England’s ‘Bazball’ approach, stating that they will win a few and lose a few with this style.

“That’s how England approaches the game. They’ll secure some wins and experience losses, but that’s their style. The first Test victory was impressive. However, playing on Indian wickets requires patience from them,” he concluded.

England’s unique and aggressive approach saw them beat India in the first Test but it has also led to them losing the next two Tests on the trot. As the action shifts to Ranchi, all eyes will be on the English side if they choose to continue with ‘Bazball’ strategy or opt for a more traditional approach.
