Shan Masood accepted his mistake of declaring early in the first Test against Bangladesh and admitted that they should have added another 50-100 runs. Pakistan made a bold declaration on a score of 448 for 6 in the first innings. However, the move backfired when Bangladesh accumulated 565 and Pakistan were bowled out for 146 in the second innings, leaving the visitors with a target of 30 runs.
Bangladesh won the match by 10 wickets to take 1-0 lead. Masood said that their decision was made due to weather as there was prediction for rain. The Pakistan skipper admitted that they made a lot of mistakes and Bangladesh were the deserving winners.
“We had the weather in mind. If you ask me now, we should have scored another 50-100 runs and it would have helped us. As a team, we were not upto the mark and made mistakes. Bangladesh were deserving winners,” Masood said.
Masood refused to blame the Rawalpindi pitch. The Pakistan skipper felt that his side failed to take wickets in Bangladesh’s first innings.
“The pitch was not docile and had enough for the seamers. Bangladesh batters were disciplined. We gave a few chances to Mehedy and Mushfiqur.
“We lost the game with the second new ball. We were 200 runs ahead and Bangladesh had lost five wickets. We should have bowled well but the bowlers allowed the rival batters to score freely. It was down to a couple of mistakes,” he added.
The second and final Test will start on August 30.
