Afghanistan have been dominating big teams in white-ball cricket in international cricket. In their recent match against England, they registered an 8-run win to stay alive in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Despite Joe Root’s magnificent hundred, the sub-continent nation managed to stun its rivals in Lahore.
This is Afghanistan’s second win over England in the ICC tournament, with the first one coming in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
Former India player Sanjay Manjrekar is a big fan of the team and recently explained that Afghanistan are a special team. “They work on their weaknesses at the earliest. South Africa bowled short to Afghan batters, who couldn’t handle it and were dismissed. But against England, they played the short ball well. They improved their shortcoming, which impacted them in the previous game.
“The wicket average against South Africa was 20 but it went up to 51 in their game with England,” he said.
Ibrahim Zadran scored 177 runs, and his magnificent knock took the team to 325/7 in 50 overs. England fought hard but were bowled out for 317 runs, with Azmatullah Omarzai taking five wickets. Afghanistan will now face Australia in their last game, and a win will take them to the semi-finals of the Champions Trophy.
