Captain generally talks about being a few runs short from their actual target after winning or losing a game in the Indian Premier League. A leader has never spoken about scoring extra runs against a rival in the tournament. However, KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane broke this trend by admitting that his team exceeded the expectations against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
The hosts were looking at 160-170 runs, but the final score was 200/6 in 20 overs. Rinku Singh (32*) and Venkatesh Iyer (60) went hard against the bowlers, and their big hits took the game away from the visiting franchise at Eden Gardens. The pressure of a big target kept increasing on the SRH batters, and the team was bundled out for 160 runs.
Rahane was pleased with the efforts of the batters. “The game was important for us, and we needed a win by a big margin. We wanted to bowl first as well, but the toss didn’t go in our favor, and then we lost two early wickets,” he said.
“I am happy with the batting unit, and we will take the learnings from this match to our upcoming games in the tournament. We were looking to score 50-60 runs in the last five overs and decided to bat normally till the 15th over and then attack. We got 20-30 runs extra because of Rinku Singh and Venkatesh Iyer. We thought 160-170 would be enough on this pitch,” he added.
