MS Dhoni still has a lot of firepower left in him. He showed his class in Chennai Super Kings’ third match against Delhi Capitals. Although he came out late to bat, Dhoni didn’t disappoint anyone.
The 42-year-old looked set from the first ball of his innings and turned back the clock in the 20th over bowled by Anrich Nortje.
The first ball was hammered for a four. Dhoni dispatched the next delivery into the stands to register his second six. He refused to take a single on the third delivery. The South Africa pacer bowled a full toss on the next delivery and it went for a four from Dhoni’s bat.
The fifth ball was a dot ball and Dhoni finished the over in style, hitting another six. He was unbeaten on 37 runs off 16 balls, with the help of 4 fours and 3 sixes. CSK fell short by 20 runs after putting up 171 runs on the board in 20 overs.
Dhoni didn’t bat in the first two games of the 17th season. He allowed other batters to bat ahead of him, with CSK winning the contests against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans.
Mahi left the captaincy before the start of IPL 2024, giving the captain’s armband to Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has looked impressive. Dhoni is likely to retire after the ongoing season.
