Only a 45-minute ferry ride from Venice, Burano Island is the perfect day trip away from The Floating City and is considered to be one of the most colourful places in Italy.

Another option is to take a vaporetto (water bus) to the colourful island, which is famous for its tradition of lace-making.

On Burano Island, visitors can explore the quaint Museo del Merletto (Lace Museum).

Commenting on TripAdvisor, one of the latest guests noted there are some “wonderful pieces” to see in the museum.

Plus, there was “no additional cost with a museum card that covered several places in Venice”.

It does not take too long to walk around the museum; the rest of the time can be spent exploring what the island has to offer.

Easily walkable – with no cars in sight – the island of Burano can be covered from one end to the other in 10 minutes.

Thankfully, there’s much to do within the island to keep visitors occupied for the whole day.

The traditional fishing village, while tiny in size, offers a relaxing retreat away from the hustle and bustle of nearby Venice. 

Inside Burano, catch sight of the leaning bell tower belonging to the Church of Saint Martin Bishop.

Take in panoramic views of the island at Tre Point and explore the wonderful shops on foot.

While there, it’s imperative to see the most colourful house on the island – the house of Bepi Suà.

Decorated with geometric shapes, the home once belonged to Giuseppe Toselli, who operated an open-air cinema in front of the house.

There’s also the N Galleria, which showcases contemporary artwork, and the vibrant Piazza Baldassarre Galuppi, which is only five minutes walk away.

While there are plenty of restaurants and bars to enjoy good food and a tipple, there’s one spot not to miss – grabbing a delightfully light gelato from Gelateria Crema.

As the sun begins to set, visitors can say goodbye to the traditional fishing village as they float away on the green-coloured lake.
