Anuj Rawat, the former wicketkeeper of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), was recently asked to choose between Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill as the best captain.
Rawat, who played for the Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans (GT) in 2025, was with RCB from 2022 to 2024. He lauded both Gill and Kohli for their leadership qualities.
“Shubman has captained well in the Indian Premier League. As for Virat Kohli, his record is magnificent. He’s always been at the top,” he told Sports Now.
Although GT reached the playoffs in 2025, they were defeated by the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Eliminator. Gill had a standout season, leading from the front and scoring 650 runs in 15 matches.
Discussing his relationship with Kohli, Rawat revealed that the two shared a strong connection, as both hail from Delhi. He reflected on their enjoyable moments, both on the field and outside.
“The bond we shared was great, especially since he’s also from Delhi. Being Delhiites, we would often chat, and I had a lot of fun. It’s hard to pick just one memory, as there were so many. We had countless moments of joy and laughter, both in the dressing room and on the field,” he added.
RCB secured Rawat for INR 3.40 crore in the IPL 2022 auction. He played 22 matches, scoring 318 runs at an average of 21.20 and a strike rate of 119.55.
