Virat Kohli retired from T20Is after India’s win in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA. Cricket was added to the 2028 Olympics, which Los Angeles will host. Former India player S Sreesanth wants Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to represent India in the biggest sporting event. Kohli also opened up about the possibility of coming out of retirement to play in the Olympics.
Speaking at the RCB Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit on Saturday, March 15, he discussed his plans for the 2028 Olympics. Rohit and Ravindra Jadeja also bid adieu to the shortest format.
He also shed light on what he would do after retiring from cricket. “I don’t know what I will do after retirement. I asked one of my teammates the same question, and he was also clueless. There is a possiblity of a lot of travel,” Virat Kohli said.
Former cricketer Isa Guha interviewed Kohli. After more than 100 years, cricket will be played in the Olympics. The matches will be conducted in T20I format.
“I am not coming out of retirement but may be for the Olympics. If we reach the final, I am may come back for one match to get a gold medal and return home with it (laughs). It would be a magnioficent feeling to become an Olympic champion,” he added.
Virat will play for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League 2025. Rajat Patidar will lead the franchise. Patidar was given the captain’s armband after Kohli refused to return as skipper.
