Virat Kohli will have a chance in the Brisbane Test to script history as India try to take a lead in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 after losing the second Test by 10 wickets at the Adelaide Oval as Australia levelled the five-match series 1-1. The visitors had won the opening game by 295 runs in Perth.
Kohli has amassed a hundred and accumulated three low scores in four innings. The 36-year-old managed 5 and an unbeaten 100 at the Optus Stadium while he made 7 and 11 in the pink-ball Test.
Kohli can become the third visiting batter to score a century in the five main cricket stadiums in Australia, with Sunil Gavaskar and Alastair Cook being the only two players to achieve the landmark.
Gavaskar’s five Test hundreds in Australia came at different venues. He reached a three-figure mark in Brisbane, Perth, and Melbourne in 1977, while he registered tons in Adelaide and Sydney in 1985.
Cook got a century in Perth in 2006, while his hundreds in Brisbane, Adelaide, and Sydney came in the 2010-11 series while the southpaw hit a hundred at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in 2017.
Jack Hobbs and Walter Hammond have more Test centuries than Kohli among visiting cricketers in Australia. The right-handed batter has three tons at the Adelaide Oval, two three-figure marks in Perth, and one hundred each in Melbourne and Sydney.
Kohli has been a part of one red-ball game in Brisbane, in which he scored 19 and 1 in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in 2014-25.
Kohli has 12 centuries in Australia across formats and is the only visiting cricketer to score more than 10 tons Down Under.
