Virat Kohli is currently taking a short break after India’s victorious campaign in the 2025 Champions Trophy. The Men in Blue defeated New Zealand in the final to secure their third title. Kohli played a pivotal role in India’s success, scoring a match-winning century against Pakistan and contributing a vital 84 runs in the semi-final against Australia. However, he struggled in the final, scoring just 1 run, though he remained one of India’s top performers throughout the tournament.
Kohli will make his return to the field for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the IPL 2025, having been retained by the franchise for Rs 21 crore ahead of the mega-auction.
Virat is on the verge of making history. With 9 T20 centuries, he holds the record for the most centuries by an Indian batter in this format of the game. He is just one century away from becoming the first Indian player to score 10 T20 centuries. Kohli, who notched his first T20 century in IPL 2016, has scored 8 centuries in the T20 league and one in T20 internationals against Afghanistan. Another century in the IPL would see him etch his name further in the history books.
Chris Gayle currently holds the record for the most T20 centuries, with 22 to his name. Babar Azam follows with 11 centuries, while Virat Kohli sits in third place with 9 centuries. Other notable players on the list, each with 8 centuries, include Rohit Sharma, Jos Buttler, David Warner, Michael Klinger, Aaron Finch, and Rilee Rossouw.
RCB will begin their 2025 IPL campaign on March 23 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who won the IPL 2024 title by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final. RCB’s first home game will be against Gujarat Titans on April 2.
