According to The Telegraph, Venice has come out on top for an affordable getaway.

The city’s airfares came out far cheaper in the October and November months making it a viable choice for those looking to get away this autumn.

The city of water came close behind Nice and Prague as a city offering excellent value despite being a popular destination.

It’s worth mentioning, however, that costs while in Venice are among the most expensive but the airfares to Venice came out far cheaper than most.

According to Lonely Planet, Venice can also be enjoyed on a budget with a few interesting tips.

Many sites are free, the city centre is walkable and there are options for budget-friendly food. 

Restaurants in Venice can come out pricey, however eating cheaply is easier than many would think.

Cicchetti are popular in this region and are similar to Spanish tapas being bar snacks.

A platter of cicchetti comes out to be the same as a starter in a formal restaurant and is both delicious and filling particularly as many bars in Venice serve them as toppings on thin slices of baguette.

According to the Lonely Planet, another innovative way to keep costs low when it comes to eating out are tramezzini which are overfilled sandwiches perfect for lunch on the run and keeping you full. 

A weekend break for one adult to Venice in October came out at around £50 return and is only a 2.5 hour journey.

Proving it’s certainly great value and can be done on a budget.

With its romantic architecture, winding canals, endless bridges, Venice has been described as living in a painting.
