Thoughts of all-inclusive getaways might conjure images of towering beachfront hotels along the Costa Del Sol, or perhaps sipping piña coladas at a seaside bar on a Greek isle. However, this popular holiday concept has now arrived much closer to our shores.

Potters Resort is tucked away on the Norfolk coastline between Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft in the charming village of Hopton-on-Sea, and whilst you might not be assured the perpetual sunshine of the Canary Islands, it offers a distinctly more British interpretation of the idea.

During a recent family trip to the venue, candid social media critic Alex Dodman explored what the resort truly offered. He said: “The best way I can describe this is like a mini Center Parcs by the sea on steroids, but without all the dry robe wearing cult like guests and the extra costs.”

Potters markets itself as the “UK’s only fully inclusive family breaks” where “every need your family has, from little ones to great-grandparents, is taken care of, without spending a single penny on Resort.”

Similar to Continental resorts, everything becomes complimentary once you enter the premises, allowing you to enjoy as much or as little as you desire, reports the Mirror.

Throughout most of the year, Potters functions as an adults-only destination, with the World Indoor Bowls Championship even being hosted there during the winter months. During the school holidays, Alex and his family enjoyed a four-night stay at the resort.

He said: “The activities on offer for the kids for the four days were so full, I needed to plan out where I could slope off for a nap and a cry for 10 minutes. But as you can rock up to any of them without booking in advance, we got stuck in.”

In an effort to get the most value for money, and perhaps still smarting from hidden costs incurred during a recent trip to Center Parcs, Alex and his family threw themselves into the range of activities on offer.

From indoor climbing to assault courses to pottery making, there was plenty to keep the children occupied. However, it was an unusual activity that Alex found most enjoyable – throwing a toilet plunger at a target.

When it came to meals, Alex told his followers: “Food and drink are all included and served every day in what can only be described as a cruise ship on land.”

After enduring what he described as “hell on earth” at the children’s discos, their four-night stay drew to a close.

Reflecting on his Norfolk getaway, Alex said: “To sum it up, pound for pound it beats places like Center Parcs every day for me, so big up Potters for giving good old-fashioned British holidays for over 100 years.”
