Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer was left clueless after his side defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 16 runs in New Chandigarh. Chasing 112 runs in 20 overs, the defending champions were bowled out for 95 in 15.1 overs. Yuzvendra Chahal took four wickets, while Marco Jansen dismissed two batters. The batters from both sides didn’t score a fifty in the contest. For KKR, Harshit Rana (3 wickets), Varun Chakravarthy ( 2 wickets), and Sunil Narine (2 wickers) were magnificent with the ball.
However, the batters didn’t turn up on a flat track, giving Kolkata their fourth defeat of the season. On the other hand, Punjab have registered four victories out of six matches so far.
“It is hard to express in words. I told Yuzi to control his length when he came to bowl. It is tough to digest such victories, but it will boost our confidence. There was a variable bounce. I think we put up a decent total, as we won by 16 runs while defending 111 runs. I told all the bowlers to bowl close to the stumps,” he said.
“When we took two wickets in two overs, the momentum shifted towards us. However, their two batters (Rahane and Angkrish) added important runs. When Chahal came, he started turning the ball, and I decided to place fielders close to the bat. We got the results in the end,” he added.
