Former South Africa fast bowler Dale Steyn said he believes Virat Kohli has done enough to play for India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the USA. He feels India need experience in a major tournament and there is no one better than Kohli. He returned to T20Is in the three-match Test series against Afghanistan..
However, he missed the five-match Test series against England to be with Anushka Sharma, who gave birth to their second child, Akaay.
Kohli will return to cricket for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the upcoming Indian Premier League 2024.
Speaking to reporters, Dale Steyn said Virat Kohli needs runs in the Indian Premier League to return to form ahead of T20 World Cup.
“It is important for him to score runs, but if you look at his overall performance, he has enough runs in his bank balance to play for India in the T20 World Cup. When India will select their team for the big event, they will go for the guys who have played in the World Cup in the past. I know it is important for him to be among the runs to get into good form ahead of the global tournament. In terms of his selection, I am sure he will be there,” Dale Steyn said.
“There are several players, who have done well in Virat Kohli’s absence but the former India captain is a different beast and you need someone like him in pressure situations. Virat has been amazing for India in T20Is.”
