“The standout performer was BoomBall”: R Ashwin praises Jasprit Bumrah’s historic feat in India’s victory over England
In a stellar performance against England in Vizag, premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah emerged as the true showstopper, earning accolades from India’s spin-bowling all-rounder, Ravichandran Ashwin. The second Test witnessed Bumrah’s exceptional display, contributing significantly to India’s 106-run victory over England.
Bumrah’s stellar performance included an impressive haul of 9 wickets across two innings, steering his team to a crucial win. This victory leveled the five-match Test series at 1-1, following India’s 28-run loss in the first Test in Hyderabad.
Expressing his admiration for Bumrah’s extraordinary bowling, Ashwin, in a video on his Youtube channel, hailed the achievement as a Himalayan feat. Bumrah not only became the fastest Indian pacer to reach 150 Test wickets but also secured the coveted position of the world’s No.1 ranked Test bowler among Indian pacers, marking a historic achievement.
“The standout performer was BoomBall. Jasprit Bumrah bowled exceptionally well, securing 14 wickets and claiming the top spot as the No.1 Test bowler. I’m a big fan of his, and achieving this feat is truly monumental,” he said.
Ashwin also commended young batsman Shubman Gill. He emphasized that Gill’s century in the second Test justified the immense talent he possesses. Gill’s impressive performance saw him scoring 104 runs off 147 balls in the second innings.
“No doubt exists about Shubman Gill’s talent. His century justified the batting prowess he possesses,” Ashwin added.
Reflecting on the team’s collective effort, Ashwin credited the positive vibe and energy that propelled India to victory on Day 4 of the second Test. Drawing parallels to the 2015 Ashes, Ashwin highlighted the excitement surrounding the ongoing Test series.
“On the fourth day, things were evenly balanced. However, our exceptional team spirit, energy, and performance allowed us to level the series at 1-1. I remember England’s thrilling Ashes series against Australia in 2005, and I followed it with great interest. I am experiencing a similar sense of excitement about this ongoing series,” he concluded.
Following their triumph in Vizag, India is set to face England at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot on February 15, anticipating another thrilling encounter in the ongoing Test series.
