The Spanish seaside town with Europe’s ‘best weather’ | Travel News | Travel
admin November 4, 2024 ArticleA gorgeous Spanish town known for its whitewashed houses, scenic beaches, and relaxed Mediterranean vibe is a perfect place for tourists in winter. Torrox, a charming coastal town in the Axarquía region of Málaga, has been crowned for having the “best climate in Europe”.
The study was conducted by weather forecast company MeteoGroup, that concluded the geographic location of Torrox has helped in getting him the recognition.
The town has the sea to the south, mountains to the north and an annual average temperature is 18C. It reportedly receives sunshine for almost 300 days a year.
Torrox is divided into two main areas: Torrox Costa along the coast and Torrox Pueblo further inland, nestled in the foothills of the Sierra de Almijara mountains.
Torrox Costa is the beachside area of Torrox, popular for its long, sandy beaches and a well-kept promenade (Paseo Marítimo) lined with restaurants, shops, and cafes.
The town has a rich Moorish and Spanish history, reflected in its architecture and layout. Highlights include the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación, a beautiful 16th-century church, and Casa de la Hoya, a cultural center located in a historic mansion.
Torrox Pueblo hosts lively festivals, such as the Feria de Torrox and Miguelín Festival, where locals and visitors celebrate with music, dancing, and traditional Andalusian food.
In December, the Festival de las Migas is a popular event that celebrates migas, a traditional dish made from breadcrumbs, garlic, and olive oil, which is served with wine and sausages for visitors to enjoy.
Travellers have shared their experiences on Tripadvisor about the beautiful town.
One person commented: “We love the promenade, such a diverse range of cultures and cafes. Some fabulous family-friendly beaches and a great market on a Monday. We loved it so much we bought a property in Torrox.”
A second user said: “Lovely flat promenade, very accessible for disabled people in wheelchairs or with walking difficulties. Plenty of benches to sit and watch the world go by. Lots of restaurants, reasonably priced. Great view of the sea and if you turn your back to the sea then you have a view of the mountains.”
A direct flight from London to Torrox comes to around £37 on December 12.
