A travel expert has helped Brits in their quest to find cheaper holiday destinations by sharing one island in one beautiful European country which is a firm favourite among tourists.

Holidays, even those designated as budget holidays, are getting more expensive, with costs expected to continue to rise in the coming years.

Airlines know that people booking close to the date of departure are usually business travellers who will have little choice but to pay higher prices.

Plus, while carriers recover from the worldwide grounding caused by the pandemic, industry leaders have warned that there are several factors likely to push ticket prices even higher. Worldwide inflation is also fuelling the spike, according to The Independent.

It is no wonder, therefore, why so many Brits are trawling the internet for the best holiday deals. One of the favourite destinations for UK nationals is Greece, and it is not difficult to see why, with their welcoming locals, beautiful beaches, varied landscapes and delicious cuisine.

Now, a travel expert has revealed the cheapest place in Greece for Brits to go on holiday – the beautiful island of Rhodes, the largest of the Dodecanese islands found northeast of Crete and southeast of Athens.

Mercedes Zach, travel agent at ASAP Tickets, told Express.co.uk: “My number one recommendation for those looking to travel for holidays… without facing huge tourist crowds and high costs is Rhodes, a well-known Greek island.

“Located near the coast of Turkey, it boasts a rich history, impressive medieval architecture, picturesque villages and a vibrant local culture. What makes Rhodes truly special is its dynamic character offering both relaxation and a vibrant party scene with sandy beaches and crystal-clear waters.”

The island’s medieval Old Town, listed as a World Heritage Site, is the “most spectacular landmark” Rhodes is known for, according to Ms Zach, and is also one of the best-preserved old towns in Europe. This makes it the perfect destination for history and culture lovers.

There are also many picturesque hiking trails through natural springs to be found on the more remote western coast of the island for those looking for a more active adventure.

The expert said: “On top of that, Rhodes is also home to some of the best beaches in Greece. From hidden to more crowded – there’s something for every taste. Anthony Quinn Bay, Faliraki, Tsambika, Kallithea and Agathi are just some of the best beaches on the island I recommend not to miss out on for breathtaking views and lots of fun water activities.”

Plus, Rhodes has a large number of resorts and all-inclusive hotels that are relatively affordable because of the high competition, she noted. Ms Zach said: “Hotel rooms start from as little as £22 per night for two people in the shoulder season, while one night in an all-inclusive for two people can start at around £65, covering the majority of your daily costs.”

Besides, Rhodes is one of the cheapest Greek Islands to fly into, with frequent flights operating from all major cities across the UK.”

For those who cannot wait for next summer, Rhodes is also a great destination for winter breaks, thanks to the fact that “the weather there is pleasant all-year-round from hot and sunny summers to moderate winters with an average of 15 degrees in January,” Ms Zach concluded.
