The pretty but underrated seaside town in Europe less than two hours from busy Dubrovnik | Travel News | Travel
admin March 15, 2025 ArticleThis pretty town is not a huge tourist destination but it’s an underrated spot which is perfect for a summer holiday. The tiny seaside town of Kotor in Montenegro has been an important port since ancient times, and its rich history can still be seen in the old cobbled streets and Venetian-style architecture.
Kotor has a picturesque coastline and nearby mountains make it an ideal spot for hiking. The town has an old-world charm that makes it a great destination for those seeking a cultural experience. One person who visited its Old Town said on Tripadvisor: “I knew very little about this area of the world before I visited.
“I walked away absolutely in love with the region and especially Old Town Kotor! Lovely little shops, restaurants, and squares with the mountains towering in the background! It was very helpful to have a tour of the city to learn its rich history.”
Another must-see place is the Bay of Kotor, known for its scenic views and peaceful atmosphere.
A visitor said on Tripadvisor: “Went on a solo trip and booked an excursion to see the island in its entirety. Stopped at the Bay of Kotor and this place is beautiful.
“This is a must-do as tourists from cruise ships and normal holidaymakers swamped this stunning bay. Restaurants and souvenir shops were abundant and it was nice to pass time in this place.”
To get to Kotor, you can fly to Tivat airport or to Dubrovnik airport.
For those hoping to see Dubrovnik, the popular Croatian hotspot, as part of the trip, it takes just under two hours to get from the city to Kotor.
In Dubrovnik, you can walk along the ancient City Walls, where you’ll be rewarded with stunning views of the Adriatic Sea and the red-roofed Old Town.
For a breathtaking panoramic experience, you can take a cable car up to Mount Srđ, where you can enjoy a beautiful sunset.
If you’re looking to book your summer holiday soon, visiting Kotor and making a stop at Dubrovnik could be the perfect place to enjoy a break this year.
