While Spring is slowly approaching, people are likely to grow impatient and looking for a getaway someplace warm this month.

Fortunately, the luscious and warm island of Barbados is a direct flight away from London.

The stunning Caribbean island is the perfect place to visit in February, which despite being in the middle of its peak season, is one of the cheapest months for airline tickets.

The island will be perfectly balmy with temperatures between 25C and 29C on most days.

Between December and April, it is also drier, with less likelihood of rain, making it ideal for beach days or lazing around the pool.

While the clear blue waters and white sandy beaches have become synonymous with the island’s allure, Barbados has more to offer than just that.

This month, specifically, is ideal for those looking to delve into the country’s culture.

Barbados celebrates its rich heritage during the busy Holetown Festival, commemorating the anniversary of the first British settlement on the island on February 17, 1627. 

This week-long cultural showcase includes a steel band concert, street fairs, parades, a Queen of the Festival Pageant, memorial talks, and lots of mingling, eating and drinking.

As the birthplace of rum, distillery tours are also considered as one of the must-do events on the islands. 

You can either opt for a tour at Mount Gay Visitor Centre in Bridgetown, go to the Foursquare Rum Distillery in St Philip for a self-guided trail, or just hit up one of the thousand rum stores on the island for a taste of what the island has to offer.

It takes just over 8 hours to fly to Barbados from London, and you can currently get tickets for as low as £300.
