The beautiful Greek island as pretty as Mykonos but without tourists | Travel News | Travel
admin March 30, 2025 ArticleIf you’re dreaming of whitewashed houses, calm waters, and sun-drenched serenity but want to escape the tourist crowds of Mykonos, there’s a hidden gem of the Aegean waiting to be discovered: Schinoussa. Tucked away in the Small Cyclades island group, this tiny island offers all the beauty of its more famous neighbors – minus the selfie-stick armies.
Schinoussa is one of Greece’s best-kept secrets, with untouched beaches, authentic Greek hospitality, and a pace of life that feels blissfully frozen in time. With fewer than 300 residents, this island is perfect for those craving peace, relaxation, and an off-the-beaten-path adventure. Unlike Mykonos, where finding a quiet spot on the beach can feel like an impossible mission, Schinoussa offers over 15 secluded beaches, many of them only accessible by foot or boat.
A visitor said on Tripadvisor: “Schinoussa has rugged beauty, amazing people, lovely beaches with turquoise waters and is a walker’s paradise.
“The people who choose it for a holiday are rather bohemian (as in easy going) who love nature as it comes.
“They are not after luxury or noise but simplicity and relaxation. I cannot forget the absolute silence day and night and the unhurried pace of life.”
The golden sands of Tsigouri beach and the serene blue waters of Psili Ammos make for the perfect escape where you won’t be battling for sunbeds.
The island’s main village is Chora, with the most taverns, shops and hotels. Around the capital, you will find tiny villages that have managed to preserve their traditional character throughout the years.
Think whitewashed houses, blue-domed chapes and narrow alleys with extraordinary natural settings.
Food lovers will not be out of options here. Schinoussa is known for its fresh seafood, local products including meat and cheese, and traditional Greek tavernas that serve up homemade dishes.
Schinoussa doesn’t have an airport, which is exactly why it has remained so unspoiled. The best way to reach it is by ferry from Naxos, the largest island in the Cyclades. Schinoussa Greece can be reached by ferry from Athens (Piraeus port).
