Chennai Super Kings were completely outplayed by Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League 2025. The 50-run defeat is a big margin in the shortest format of the game, but the CSK captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, doesn’t think so. He made a shocking statement on his team’s defeat in the post-match presentation ceremony.
The hosts were given a target of 197 runs by the arch-rivals, but they managed just 146/8 in the allotted 20 overs. Gaikwad, who scored a fifty-plus score in the previous game against Mumbai Indians, failed to open his account.
“Sill happy that we lost by 50 runs, which is not a big margin,” he said.
He hit out at his teammates for dropping several catches during the match. RCB captain Rajat Patidar was lucky on several occasions as his catches were not held by the fielders. He scored 51 runs off 32 balls and was named the Player of the Match.
“170 would have been a par score but bad fielding cost us in the game. You bat differently when you chase 170, but 20 more runs makes things difficult. The pitch was not easy to bat on, and it changed in the second innings. The surface became more sticky and slow. We have to improve the fielding department, and there is no way we can drop catches during the crucial stages of a game,” he added.
