Steve Smith is in phenomenal form at the moment. After scoring two hundreds in the five-match Test series against India, he has accumulated two more in the ongoing assignment in Sri Lanka. Smith has amassed 36 centuries in his Test career and equalled Joe Root’s number.
In the list of Fab Four, Root and Smith have recorded 36 tons, while Kane Williamson (34) and Virat Kohli (30) are lacking behind.
Australia were in trouble in the first innings of the second and final Test against Sri Lanka but Smith’s three-digit mark and his partnership of more than 150 runs with Alex Carey put the visitors in a strong position.
In the series opener, Smith managed 141 in the first essay, with Australia winning the contest by an innings and 242 runs. Smith is the six on the list of batters with most hundreds in the longest format of the game. Apart from Smith and Root, Rahul Dravid also hit 36 centuries in red-ball cricket.
Sachin Tendulkar (51), Jacques Kallis (45), Ricky Ponting (41) and Kumar Sangakkara (38) are the top four.
