Steve Smith predicts Virat Kohli will be the highest run-scorer in ICC T20 World Cup 2024
Ahead of India‘s T20 World Cup 2024 match against Ireland on June 5, Steve Smith has tipped Virat Kohli to be the tournament’s top run-scorer. Kohli was the leading run-getter in the T20 World Cup 2022 and holds the record for the most runs scored in the history of the competition.
Riding high on his impressive IPL 2024 performance, where he amassed 741 runs in 15 matches for RCB, Kohli enters the T20 World Cup 2024 in excellent form. Recognizing this, Australia batter Steve Smith, has named Kohli to be the tournament’s top run-scorer once again.
“Virat Kohli, fresh off a terrific IPL performance, will be the leading run-scorer in this tournament. His great current form suggests he is poised to dominate the batting charts,” opined Smith who is serving as a commentator in the ongoing T20 World Cup.
Graeme Smith named Virat Kohli and England captain Jos Buttler as top contenders for the tournament’s leading run-scorer.
“I’m going pick someone in the top order. Jos Buttler or Virat Kohli,” Smith remarked.
Kohli has scored an impressive 1141 runs in the 27 T20 World Cup matches. The Indian star boasts an exceptional average of 81.50 and has notched up 14 fifties at a strike rate exceeding 131. However, he missed India’s warm-up game against Bangladesh on June 1, having arrived late in the USA. Despite this, Kohli was in fine form during the practice session leading up to the clash against Ireland.
Virat Kohli made the most of his first net session, facing a formidable bowling lineup that included Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, and Yuzvendra Chahal. After taking time to assess the conditions, Kohli unleashed his shots during the 40-minute session. Earlier, the Indian team had trained for close to 3 hours ahead of their June 3 clash against Ireland.
