Sreesanth wants Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma to come out of T20I retirement and win gold for India in Olympics
admin March 5, 2025 ArticleFormer Indian fast bowler S Sreesanth has dismissed retirement talks for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. He urged the legendary duo to participate in the 2028 Olympics and win a gold medal for India.
Kohli and Rohit are among India’s greatest batters. Together, they have scored over 47,000 runs and hit 131 centuries in international cricket. However, their recent struggles, especially in Test cricket, have led to retirement discussions among fans and former cricketers.
Cricket is set to return to the Olympics after more than a century. It was last played at the event in 1900. The 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles will feature the T20 format.
‘The best thing about the Indian team right now is that they are humble’ – S Sreesanth
In a conversation with India Today, Sreesanth spoke about the current Indian team and praised their unity. He said:
“Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma shouldn’t take retirement and play for India in the Olympics. The two deserves to be Olympians and win a gold medal for the country. Indian players are cooperative and humble and we see brotherhood on the field.”
Rohit and Kohli retired from T20Is after India’s 2024 T20 World Cup victory. However, with the Olympics set to be played in the T20 format, fans are eager to see if they will return for the mega event.
Rohit and Kohli have both set many records in their careers. Rohit was part of India’s 2007 T20 World Cup team, while Kohli was part of the 2011 ODI World Cup-winning team. They won their first ICC title in the 2013 Champions Trophy under MS Dhoni.
However, despite their brilliance as individuals, India experienced disappointments in ICC competitions for years. The drought eventually broke when India lifted the 2024 T20 World Cup. Rohit captained the team, whereas Kohli won the Player of the Match award in the final.
Now, India is on the cusp of another ICC trophy. They beat Australia in the semifinals of the 2025 Champions Trophy and advanced to the final. The Men in Blue will take on either South Africa or New Zealand in the final in Dubai on March 9.
