The holiday booking company Travelocity has shared the best things to do to beat the crowds on a trip to Majorca.

Located off the coast of Spain, Majorca is an incredibly popular destination for a short getaway due to it’s warm climate and impressive surroundings.

However, whilst up to 16.5 million tourists visit the Spanish island each year, the vast majority stay in Palma, the largest city in Majorca.

To help experience the destination at its best Travelocity recommended travelling to a more rural area, such as Castell de Santueri.

Found in Felanich, about 45 minutes from Palma, this rock castle is found some 408 metres above sea level, making it a fantastic spot to admire the view and some of Majorca’s history.

Another part of the island that Travelocity suggested tourists should visit is Cala Sa Nau, said to be one of the most beautiful beaches in Majorca.

At just 50 metres wide, Cala Sa Nau is by no means a large beach, with surrounding limestone cliffs giving travellers extra privacy.

Featuring incredibly clear water, this beach is a particularly good spot for tourists looking to snorkel for wildlife, or simply kicking back and sunbathing.

Visitors to Majorca looking to experience a slice of the island’s rich history were advised by Travelocity to go to the Sanctuary Sant Salvador.

This unusual monastery was built in the 1300s at an incredibly high altitude due to beliefs that it could protect people from the ravaging black death.

Tourists can visit Sanctuary Sant Salvador for free to view a shrine to Mother Mary, a wide collection of vintage artwork and a panoramic view of the countryside.

Finally, the company suggested that tourists who want to experience some great local food during their trip should visit Playa de s’Arenal.

By far, the biggest attraction to this area is the sandy beach, which is covered in palm trees. However, there are many excellent cafes and restaurants on the other side of the beaches promenade.

Many of the venues in Playa de s’Arenal offer local takes on popular Spanish dishes, including seafood paellas and pintxo tapas.
