Rishabh Pant was not seen in the team huddle on the eve of the India vs Pakistan match in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The stories of a rift between the wicket-keeper and the head coach, Gautam Gambhir, doing the round added more ammunition to the whispers. Team India’s vice-captain Shubman Gill ended all the rumors when he revealed that Pant was down with viral fever.
“He is suffering from viral fever and that’s why he didn’t turn up for the training today. I try to speak to the players, who are not a part of the playing XI as they feel a bit low,” he said. The team management has preferred KL Rahul over Rishabh in the fifty-over format.
Gill was also asked to take a Pakistan bowler India will target on February 23 in Dubai. “We will not target any particular bowler. It wioll depend on the situation of the match,” he added.
The young batter also refused to give importance to the toss as the dew is not coming in Dubai, and the Indian team will look to perform well, irrespective of the toss result.
Shubman scored a match-winning hundred against Bangladesh in India’s first match in the Champions Trophy. He was named the Player of the Match for leading the team to a six-wicket win.
