Punjab Kings were not ready to accept Shashank Singh as their player during the IPL 2024 auction. There were two players with the same name during the bidding process, and after buying Shashank, the owners told the auctioneer that they were looking for the other Shashank.
However, their appeal was turned down, and the Punjab had to keep Shashank. The franchise tried to defuse the trolling and mocking on social media and claimed they got the cricketer they were looking for.
Their behavior in the auction process indicated they wanted to get the other Shashank on board. Meanwhile, the 32-year-old proved them wrong and slammed an unbeaten 61 runs off 29 balls, leading Punjab to a win by 3 wickets.
He hit 6 fours and 4 sixes, bringing the team back into the contest from a losing position. His partnership with Ashutosh Sharma changed the flow of the contest. Ashutosh amassed 31 off 17 deliveries.
Irfan Pathan asked Shashank about the auction controversy after the game. “You already know what happened, as there were two players with the same game. The team called me the next day, and the person claimed they were bidding for me. The coaching staff, captain and owners have been helpful. Shikhar Dhawan was happy with my performance, and our owner, Preity Zinta, said that she knew I would win the game,” Shashank Singh said.
