Former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson is in awe of Nitish Kumar Reddy’s crucial knock against table toppers Rajasthan Royals on Thursday. Watson opined that the SRH rookie is emerging as one of Watson’s favorite players in IPL 2024. The youngster stole the show in yesterday’s game smashing 76* in 42 balls to help the SRH put up a total of 201 in the first innings at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.
Speaking on Jio Cinema, Watson expressed his admiration for the youngster’s batting skills and how he punished bowlers Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal.
“Yes, he is undoubtedly becoming into one of my favourite players to watch out for. It is impressive that a young guy can command a spin bowling assault, particularly one that features Ashwin and Yuzi Chahal. Almost every shot the young man played tonight was of an exceptional. It’s remarkable that someone can develop those skills at such an early age and perform well under pressure against the world’s finest bowlers,” stated Watson.
Reddy strode to the crease in the 6th over and played a spectacular innings at number 4. He faced the spinners and quicky accelerated the pace in the middle overs. He scored 5 runs off the first 10 deliveries and then 45 in the next 20. The 20-year old towered 8 sixes in his innings, joint most by an SRH batter in IPL.
Watson also claimed that Nitish is a special talent and named him as one of the top finds in IPL 2024.
“He is a rare talent. Nitish Reddy is one of the extremely talented Indian cricketers that emerge from the IPL. This is the reason Indian cricket has a wealth of talent and Nitish is one such gem,” he continued.
SRH are now ranked 4th in the IPL points table while RR stay at the top.
