MS Dhoni did not have an impressive season with the bat in the ongoing 18th edition of the tournament. He became Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) captain in their last nine games after regular skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out due to an elbow injury. However, the Men in Yellow failed to cross the finishing line in six contests under Dhoni’s leadership.
Aakash Chopra highlighted that most of Dhoni’s runs have come in losing causes in the last two seasons of the league. He also mentioned about Dhoni’s high dot-ball percentage against spinners.
“He has batted in the lower order in the last few seasons. He has been coming out to bat at 8 or 9 in 45 percent of the matches. While he has hit sixes, most of his runs have come in a losing cause,” Chopra said on Star Sports.
“He hasn’t made impressive contributions in winning causes. His dot ball percentage is at 45 percent, which is on the higher side and fans should take a note of it,” he added.
Dhoni, was ordinary behind the stumps this season. Chopra mentioned that the 43-year-old tool five and dropped four catches in IPL 2025. “He showed flashes of brilliance as a wicket-keeper but stats tell a different story. He gave away most runs among the keepers in the 18th season. While he grabbed five matches, he also dropped four,” he concluded,” he concluded.
CSK won their last game of the season by 83 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Chennai posted 230/5 in their 20 overs with Devon Conway and Dewald Brevis scoring fifties. Shubman Gill-led side was bowled out for 147, with Noor Ahmad and Anshul Kamboj taking three wickets each.
