“Rohit Sharma should think about his batting rather than captaincy”: Manjrekar on Indian captain’s rough patch

Former India player Sanjay Manjrekar has said that Rohit Sharma should think about his batting first rather than captaincy as Rohit, the batter, is more important as he can control things. The 58-year-old urged Rohit to invest time in his batting and follow the process during captaincy instead of losing patience after getting out.

Manjrekar commented after Rohit registered scores of 24, 39, 14, and 13 in the last two Tests against England.

The right-handed batter registered scores of 5, 0, 39 and 16 not out in the two-Test SERIES against South Africa, which ended 1-1.

“I think Rohit Sharma is trying to get all the things right as a captain. It has to be Rohit Sharma the batter first and then the captain because when you are leading a team, there are some things which are beyond your control,” Sanjay Manjrekar said on ESPNcricinfo.

“Follow the words of MS Dhonbi, who said to go for the process and wait for things to happen. Batting is something that Rohit Sharma can control,” he added.

Sanjay Manjrekar said that Rohit should take a clue from his centuries in England and against Australia in India.

“Rohit should follow the basics he implemented in England and against Australia in India. He had to go back and play as a batsman.”

Rohit accumulated 368 runs in four Tests at an average of 52.57 in England in 2021. He amassed 242 runs in four Tests at an average of 40.33 against Australia during the 2023 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
