Former India T20I skipper Rohit Sharma credited Rahul Dravid, Ajit Agarkar, and Jay Shah for the team’s success in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the United States of America. He called these three pillars behind the triumph. Rohit hailed the trio for creating a friendly environment where players could give their best without worrying.
India defeated South Africa in the final at Barbados on June 29 with a seven-run win. This ended the 11-year wait for the ICC trophy. The Men in Blue had won the Champions Trophy under MS Dhoni’s captaincy in 2013.
“I wanted to transform the team without giving importance to the stats and the results. We wanted to create an enviornment where players can go out and express themselves on the field without thinking too much,” Rohit Sharma said.
“This is what we needed as a team. I got help from my three pillars, who are Mr Jay Shah, Mr Rahul Dravid (and the) chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar,” he added.
The veteran also opened up about lifting the T20 World Cup trophy. He said that you don’t get it every day.
“It is feeling that cannot come everyday. It was something we always wanted to achieve and we successfully did it in the West Indies. It was important for us to enjoy the moment as it was big day for us. We performed pretty well and thanks to the people of India for celebrating with us.”
“It ment everything for the players and our fans. It ws great to bring the trophy back home and celebrate with everyone. I can’t describe the feeling in words. I don’t think it can be expressed. It will not do justice to our effect when the moment finally arrived,” Rohit concluded.
