Ritika Sajdeh expresses sadness over Rohit Sharma’s T20I retirement
admin July 2, 2024 ArticleRitika Sajdeh, the wife of India’s T20 World Cup-winning captain Rohit Sharma, posted a special message for him. Rohit’s decision to step away from the T20I format came after India‘s victory against South Africa in Barbados on June 29. As captain, Rohit masterminded a flawless campaign, making India the first team to win the T20 World Cup undefeated. Rohit also excelled with the bat, finishing as the tournament’s second-highest run-scorer.
During a press conference, the 37-year old batter announced he was retiring from T20I cricket, following in the footsteps of Virat Kohli. On Monday, Ritika took to Instagram to share a special message. In her post, she expressed that it had been both emotional and inspiring to witness Rohit’s dream of winning the World Cup come true.
As a fan of Rohit’s game, she expressed sadness over his decision to step away from the T20I format. While she acknowledged that Rohit likely made this choice with the team’s interests in mind, she admitted that it was still difficult for her to accept.
Ritika posted Rohit’s picture on Instagram with the caption, “Ro, I know what this has meant to you. This format, this cup, these men, this journey and this entire process of getting what you’ve always dreamed of. I know how hard these last few months have been for you. I know the toll it’s taken on your heart, mind and body but watching you achieve your dream was incredibly emotional and inspiring.
As your wife, I am immensely proud of what you’ve achieved and the impact you’ve had on this game and the people who love it; but as someone who loves your game I’m sad to see you leave any part of it behind. I know you’ve thought long and hard about what’s best for this team but that doesn’t make watching you leave that part of it behind any easier. I love you so much and I am so incredible proud to call you mine!”
Rohit revealed that this was the ideal time for him to retire from the format, adding that winning the T20 World Cup was always his goal.
“This was also my final game, I can honestly say that I have thoroughly enjoyed it since the very beginning. This is the perfect time for me to bid farewell, as I have cherished every moment of my India career in this format. From the start, this is what I set out to do – win the Cup and then gracefully step away.”
