Rishabh Pant on the verge of going past Virender Sehwag’s sixes record in Test cricket

India’s wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is set to surpass Virender Sehwag’s record in the upcoming fourth Test against England. Pant has been in exceptional form this series, and is the second-highest run-scorer with 425 runs from three matches.
Pant has already scored two centuries and two fifties at a remarkable average of 70.83, As the fourth Test approaches, he is just three sixes away from becoming the leading six-hitter for India in Test cricket.
Pant, alongside former captain Rohit Sharma, holds the second position for the most sixes hit by an Indian in Test cricket, with 88 sixes in 46 matches. He is just three sixes away from overtaking Sehwag, who struck 90 sixes across 103 matches during his career.
This puts Pant within striking distance of claiming this major record in the upcoming contest, set to begin on July 23 at Old Trafford, Manchester. However, his participation in the match is uncertain after he suffered a finger injury during the third Test at Lord’s.
Pant sustained a finger injury while wicketkeeping on Day 1. Dhruv Jurel took over as the substitute wicketkeeper for the rest of the game, raising doubts about Pant’s availability for the fourth Test.
India’s assistant coach, Ryan Ten Doeschate, has hinted at the possibility of playing Pant as a pure batter, considering his stellar form and the significance of the fourth Test. However, this would require further adjustments to the playing XI, with Jurel stepping in as wicketkeeper. Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has advised against playing Pant only as a batter.
