A tourist shared what a stunning, tranquil holiday spot loved by tourists is really like after dubbing it the “human lagoon”.

When it comes to going on holiday, most of us try to visit the most popular sites at least once to tick it off the bucket list. But the reality is the most raved about areas can be too busy that it may ruin your experience.

Malta has been described as “the most underrated country in the world”. The small country has stunning beaches and lagoons, breathtaking gardens, historical sites, and plenty of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. With 300 days of sunshine a year and Europe’s warmest average temperatures. So, it’s not hard to see why it has become a raved about location online recently.

A bucket list spot for visitors is the Blue Lagoon, located on the island of Comino – around 30 minutes from the main island of Malta. It’s best known for its beautiful crystal clear turquoise blue waters and cliffs. It’s the ultimate photograph spot and perfect for hikers, and those who want to go for a swim.

One individual shared on TikTok if you visited the Blue Lagoon at 8am it is very calm and peaceful, but turning up at 1pm you’re bound to find a sea of crowds, and filled beach beds.

Choice Holidays advises going early in the morning or during a weekday for a quieter experience. May, September and October are less busy but still warm enough to enjoy a day at the beach.

One other individual shared a clip during their visit and said: “The Blue Lagoon or the human lagoon?” The water and the cliffs were filled with people. Relating to the tourist, one individual said: “I was there today… crazy.”

But others said it is only one particular area around the lagoon that gets extremely busy. One former resident said: “I lived there for few years and honestly it’s always crowded only in like one spot (close to one bus stop/parking etc).”

One other suggested: “Best thing to do is swim to the little island on the opposite side, where no boat can reach.”

Another, who timed their visit well, said: “Listen, I went there with the first boat for the day and it was magical, people actually started coming around 11 and the jellyfish came out at 12, so that’s when we left.”

A third commented: “Glad I’ve seen it in May – few people – I really enjoyed this beautiful place.”
