R Ashwin came out with all guns blazing in the first innings of the opening Test against Bangladesh in Chennai. He used his feet to perfection against the spinners and played the rival pacers smartly. India were 144/6 when he arrived at the crease and the legendary cricketer didn’t allow Bangladesh to take more wickets.
The hosts were 339/6 in 80 overs when the umpires ended the proceedings due to bad light. Former India National Cricket Team player Ajay Jadeja made an interesting point on Ashwin’s sixth Test hundred.
“Ashwin was angry and he channelized his angry to his advantage. He didn’t liked the fact that Ravindra was kept ahead of him in the batting order.
“Although Ashwin and Jadeja are teammates but big players get hurt when their position is handed over to someone else. He batted beautifully. Jadeja was also impressive with the bat but the day belongs to Chennai boy,” Ajay Jadeja said on JioCinema.
The right-handed batter was unbeaten on 102 runs off 112 balls, laced with 10 fours and 2 sixes. On the other hand, Jadeja amassed 86 runs off 117 deliveries, with the help of 10 fours and 2 sixes.
They have added 195 runs for the seventh wicket. Earlier, Hasan Mahmud dismissed Rohit Sharma (6), Shubman Gill (0) and Virat Kohli (6) to put Bangladesh in front. Yashasvi Jaiswal (56) and Rishabh Pant (39) added some respectability to the total but they also left one after another. Hasan finished the day with four wickets.
