Punjab coach reveals Arshdeep Singh’s frustration after being ignored by team management in England

Punjab’s bowling coach, Gagandeep Singh, has shared his thoughts on pacer Arshdeep Singh‘s situation. The left-arm seamer was a part of the team during the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy between England and India.
Arshdeep was left out of the first three Tests, with hopes of making his debut in the fourth match. Unfortunately, a thumb injury to his left hand during a net session prevented him from playing. Although he recovered in time for the fifth Test, he was once again not selected.
Reflecting on the pacer’s exclusion, Gagandeep acknowledged that the 26-year-old had become increasingly frustrated. In a media interaction, he spoke openly about the situation.
“I genuinely believed he deserved a chance in England. A few months ago, when he was there, we spoke, and he expressed feeling restless and Impatient about not being given an opportunity in the Test team. I told him, ‘You need to be patient and wait for your moment,” he said.
The series ended in a 2-2 draw, with India securing a dramatic six-run win in the final Test at The Oval, sealing a historic conclusion.
In the same discussion, Gagandeep Singh pointed out that Arshdeep Singh has the skills to thrive in red-ball cricket. “Test cricket is unique as it challenges your skills and temperament in a way that no other format can. However, I am confident that his skill set is well-suited for red-ball cricket as well, especially considering his height, natural ability to swing the ball, and enhanced control.”
