The Scottish Hebrides are famed for some beautiful spots but only one village can boast whale and dolphin watching. 

Tobermory is a small town on the Isle of Mull in the Scottish Hebrides. It is perhaps most known for appearing in the CBeebies children’s programme Balamory.

However this little port town, with its brightly coloured buildings framing the horseshoe bay, is also famous for its stunning wildlife.

Every day, boats leave from the town taking tourists to see minke whales, harbour porpoises, a range of dolphins (bottlenose, common and striped) and seals on trips lasting between one hour and seven days

If you don’t fancy going out to spot wildlife, there’s plenty to do back on the mainland.

The town offers plenty of shops which sell everything from chocolate and honey to soap and books.  There are also a number of restaurants and cafes to enjoy.

As well as the retail opportunities, there’s the Mull Museum, a distillery, a aquarium and a nine hole golf course so the village really does offer something for everyone.

For those who want to travel further afield, there’s Glengorm Castle nearby and other lovely country walks to more stunning historical sites like the lighthouse at Rubha nan Gall or the standing stones at Baliscate.

People who have visited this bay have said it’s a stunning place to spend a weekend.

A Tripadvisor review of Tobermory Bay is titled ‘One of the most beautiful place on the planet’. It reads: “Tobermory is the main town on the island of Mull. The harbor with its colorful buildings is beautifully situated on the Tobermory Bay.

“Tobermory, capital of Mull, is one of the prettiest ports in Scotland, thanks to the colourful houses and a sheltered bay where legend has it one of the Spanish Armada ships sank in 1588 carrying gold bullion.

“Main Street is a mix of shops, eateries, hotels and guest houses and has an excellent selection of locally produced arts and crafts. What a beautiful place. Simply magical.

“A beautiful place!” another visitor wrote on the website. “We spent a few hours here as a family, browsing the shops, and drinking a coffee. We could have easily stayed longer, but only had a single day.”
