Former India bowler and Rohit Sharma’s close friend, Praveen Kumar, has applied for a post in the men’s selection committee. The Ajit Agarkar-led panel has two vacancies and September 10 is the deadline. Praveen, who represented India in six Tests, 68 ODIs and 10 T20Is and picked up 112 wickets wants to be a part of the decision-making process.
Praveen is currently working as the chief selector of the Uttar Pradesh senior men’s team. “Praveen Kumar has applied for the national selector’s post from the Central Zone. It will be interesting to see who all give their names,” a source said.
According to the rules, the new applicants must have retired from all forms of cricket at least five years ago. He should have played a minimum of seven Test matches or 30 first-class games, or 10 fifty-over games and 20 first-class contests.
The applicants shouldn’t be associated with any BCCI Cricket Committee for five years. Agarkar, SS Das and Ajay Ratra are the members of the current panel. RP Singh is also interested but the veteran pacer hasn’t applied yet.
Singh played 82 international games across formats for India and claimed 124 wickets.
Pragyan Ojha, the former spinner, has applied from the South Zone. Ojha competed in 24 Tests, 18 ODIs, and six T20Is and took 144 wickets.
