A tiny but beautiful seaside village has one of the country’s most gorgeous beaches.

Porthcurno is a village on the southwest coast of Cornwall. Its name in Cornish means ‘pinnacle cove’.

It is a breathtaking area, part of the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and considered some of the most stunning coastlines in Britain.

Porthcurno Beach is a main pull for tourists with white sandy shores, blue water and a small stream. It has been named among the most beautiful bays in the world. It is popular with families in the summer and is quiet in the off-season.

The village has two cafes and has few amenities. The nearest shops are in St Buryan and Sennen.

Also to visit is the Porthcurno Telegraph Museum, dedicated to the dawn of wireless science in the former global hub of cable communications, and the Minack Theatre, an incredibly unique open-air theatre that looks out over the bay,

There are many other beaches to explore such as Porth Chapel, where there is a freshwater spring, Green Bay, Pedn Vounder, Penberth and Porthgwarra.

The cliffs are enjoyed by walkers. From the village, you can follow the South West Coast Path, England’s longest waymarked footpath, stretching over 600 miles from Somerset to Dorset along the coast.

In the surrounding area are some other small villages, the port town of Penzance and Land’s End, the most westerly point in England.

Those who have visited Porthcurno have described it as a “beautiful, unspoilt” place. One Tripadvisor reviewer said: “When the sun comes out, you could be on any beach in the world.”

And the Minack Theatre was called a “must-see” for all visitors saying the beauty of the theatre and the view make for an “emotional experience”.

Porthcurno has a handful of places to stay such as holiday lets but there are also more in the nearby villages. Those visiting can get there by car via the B3315 or by bus from Penzance.
