Sachin Tendulkar and Anjali have been married for nearly 30 years. She has helped Sachin throughout his career. However, Anjali’s mother was not sure about allowing her daughter to marry the cricketer.
Annabelle Mehta has opened up about the time when Sachin wanted to marry Anjali. The Indian batter was only 19 years old, and the news of their relationship was kept a secret. In her new memoir, My Passage to India, published by Times of India, she wrote about Sachin and Anjali.
“Sachin was one of the best young talents in the country, but I was concerned about him becoming a playboy like his fellow teammates. Sachin was like David Beckham in the nineties. I looked him in the eye to know about the importance of my daughter in his life,” she wrote.
Ssachin’s reposed surprised her. “We want to get married. I was astounded, as I had always imagined Anjali getting married to a tall, dark, and handsome man. Sachin was dark and handsome, but he was still a boy and so small. He was barely taller than my daughter, who is five-foot-five and a half. Sachin’s curly hair made him look a bit taller, but not enough for Anjali to wear the high heels she always loved,’ she further wrote.
Sachin waited till 1992 – when he was 22- to marry Anjali.
