The Pakistan Cricket Board has stopped the daily allowance of women players who are being called up in the national camps. This decision has disappointed several players in the country.
“The girls is being provided with accommodation and food and that’s why it has been decided to discontinue the DA,” a PCB official said.
The women cricketers who were part of the training camp in Multan for the home series against South Africa didn’t like the new directive as they came from different parts of the country.
The white-ball series between Pakistan and South Africa will start on September 17. It will be used as a preparation ground for the ICC Women’s T20 Cup World Cup in the UAE next month.
On the other hand, the men’s cricketers have an option of getting food, accommodation and a daily allowance.
The women were also entitled to the same benefits, but the PCB has changed the rules. The decision has come at a time when PCB is spending lavishly on several projects, including handsome salaries to the five mentors of the teams in the Champions One-Day Cup.
The board has also started the renovation of the stadiums ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025.
“What difference it would make to the financial status of PCB if they give DA to women’s cricketers. The decision is not right and would no go down well with the players,” a former Pakistan player said.
The board officials said that the players will get DA when they go into the series.
The women cricketers are also waiting for the new central contracts, which have been delayed by a month. Last year, the contracts were given to 19 women cricketers.
