Pat Cummins doesn’t like changing things after a few failures. With Australia defeating New Zealand in the first Test, Cummins is a happy captain. However, the same can’t be said about Marnus Labuschagne, who hasn’t scored runs for a long time. Some fans and critics believe he should be dropped after failing in several games, but Cummins still backs the batter.
He said that Marnus’ place was not under threat. In the latest game, the right-handed batter scored 1 and 2 across both innings and has now gone without scoring a hundred in 14 innings, with his last hundred coming in the Ashes against England in July 2023.
“No way his position is under threat. He is the first one who will admit that he wants to score runs. He is batting well in the nets and Marnus has been unlucky in some of the innings as well,” Cummins said in the post-match press conference.
“Our top six batters are the best in Australia There are times when some of them are not able to score runs but we need to stand up for them when going gets tough. Everyone is going well,” he added.
Marnus’ Test average has dropped below 50. He has scored 4018 runs from 49 Test matches, with the help of 11 hundreds.
Australia will look to clinch the series in the second Test, which starts on March 9 at the Hagley Oval.
