Pakistan are under the pump after their defeat against the United States of America in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The 2009 champions lost to the minnows in the Super Over, leaving their fans and former players shell-shocked.
According to Shoaib Jatt, who is a famous sports journalist in Pakistan, the team is a divided house, with Shaheen Afridi and Babar Azam are not in talking terms.
He revealed that Mohammad Rizwan, who was acting as a bridge between the two fallen out stars, has stopped taking sides.
The problem started when Shaheen replaced Babar as a captain in T20Is after the 2023 ODI World Cup. Azam had left the post following Pakistan’s failure to qualify for the semis. Afridi was given the responsibility by the Pakistan Cricket Board but Babar didn’t like the move and despite agreeing to support Shaheen, his behaviour was different with the new skipper.
When the left-arm pacer was sacked by the new chairman of PCB after one series, Babar, who was reappointed as a captain, didn’t reveal anything to Shaheen. Even Rizwan didn’t offer his support to Afridi.
Jatt accused Babar of being egoistic, saying that the current leader is not keeping the team united and the big three are not on a same page.
