The United States of America defeated Canada by 7 wickets in the opening game of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Chasing 195, the hosts reacted the target in 17.4 overs. Aaron Jones were unstoppable, scoring 94 not out off 40 balls. He hit 10 sixes and 4 fours and his runs came at a strike rate of 235.
He went hard after the bowlers and there was no respite for the Canada bowlers. Former India player Mohammad Kaif lauded the 29-year-old Jones for his range.
He feels that other teams will now be afraid of the States, considering the presence of Aaron. The USA will face India, Pakistan and Ireland in the remaining games.
“They were two down but Jones had other ideas. He went on rampage against Canada. You generally don’t see 10 sixes in an innings. With their unbelievable hitting, the hosts can trouble any team. Their rivals will be afraid of them,” Mohammad Kaif said on Star Sports.
Meanwhile, the visiting team also batted aggressively, accumulating 194/5 in 20 overs. Navneet Dhaliwal and Nicholas Kirton hit fifties.
For the States, Andries Gous was another star performer. He managed 65 off 46, including seven fours and three sixes.
