The gorgeous Snowdon Mountain Railway is one of the most spectacular journeys in the UK.

The train leaves from Llanberis Station, which has a pretty flower-lined forecourt. The steam-power locomotive then crosses the viaduct across the Avon Hwch River and the majestic Ceunant Mawr waterfall.

After snaking past the halfway house famous for its lemonade made with a secret recipe, the train travels past the dramatic Rocky Valley.

The sheer edge of the formation offers unbelievable views of the Llanberis Pass and the Lyn Peninsula.

The final stop is the summit, Hafod Eryri, the UK’s highest visitor centre. It offers incredible views and on a clear day visitors can see as far as Ireland.

The train dates back to 1896, giving this trip a true old-timey feel.

At the top of the top of the mountain is a cafe, where you can enjoy a warm drink and the views.

One visitor wrote: “Of course, this incredible piece of architecture and engineering positioned on the top of a mountain is going to be a tourist magnet especially as you can get there by train another amazing piece of engineering.

“I’ve climbed mountains in the Lake District and never had the luxury of a hot drink and use of toilets when I reached the top!”

Another train journey was recently dubbed England’s “most scenic”.

The Poppy Line, located between Sheringham and Holt in North Norfolk, scuttles along for 5.25 miles (8.45km) through the flat countryside.

Punters will board at Sheringham, a traditionally Victorian seaside town.
