Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel has warned the players of his franchise of the consequences if the fielding doesn’t improve. He commented after DC defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 8 wickets in an away game. The all-rounder looked satisfied with the performance of the batters and bowlers, but came down heavily on the teammates for their fielding lapses. Delhi have dropped catches and conceded extra runs in all eight matches they have been part of so far.
This could impact them in a big match, and Axar is aware of it. He has led the team from the front, making vital contributions with the bat. When he was asked about one area in which improvement is needed, the star bowler touched upon the mistakes the Capitals are committing consistently.
“Fielding needs to be better. You can’t drop catches in 8 or 9 matches. There is no way you can be ordinary in the fielding department in all the matches. Bowlers get frustrated when catches are not taken. It could cost us in a big match or a crunch situation. We will discuss it in the dressing room,” Axar Patel said.
“You can have a bad day in the batting and bowling departments but not fielding. This is one area where all the players can contribute,” he added.
Delhi and Gujarat Titans are tied on 12 points after 8 contests, but the latter are leading the standing on the basis of net run-rate.
