Former Pakistan batter Basit Ali wants the PCB to appoint Mohammad Rizwan as captain with immediate effect. Babar Azam and Rizwan played against each other in Match 4 of the ongoing Champions One-Day Cup 2024 when Markhors took on Stallions, with the former winning by 126 runs.
Batting first, Rizwan’s team, Markhors, posted 231 runs in 45 overs. In reply, the Stallions were dismissed for 105 runs as Zahid Mahmood took 5 wickets in 4.4 overs. Following the contest, Basit Ali lauded Rizwan’s captaincy, calling him the best captain in Pakistan.
“There is no better captain than Rizwan in Pakistan, and he once again proved himself. He read the pitch perfectly, and even Babar Azam can’t do that. I am not even talking about Shan Masood. If you don’t make Rizwan captain at this time, then it is a loss for Pakistan. This is the best time to promote him as skipper,” Basit Ali said.
Babar has been ordinary as a leader since the 2023 ODI World Cup, where the Men in Green failed to qualify for the knockouts. In the ICC T20 World Cup Cup, Pakistan were eliminated from the first round.
Babar scored just 64 runs from four innings in the two-Test series against Bangladesh. On the other hand, Rizwan managed 294 runs from four innings in two games against Bangladesh. In the ODI World Cup 2023, he amassed 395 runs from eight innings.
